STATEMENT ON REDISTRICTING
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SALT LAKE CITY, UT — September 30, 2025 — The Utah Federation of College Republicans stands united in strong opposition to recent efforts to undermine Utah’s constitutionally granted redistricting process and the authority of the Utah State Legislature. Attempts by activist groups and outside influences to override or delegitimize the Legislature’s constitutionally defined role in drawing district maps represent a direct attack on our state’s constitution and the foundational principles of self-governance.
Utah’s constitution is clear: the power and responsibility to draw legislative and congressional districts resides with the Utah Legislature, a body elected by and accountable to the people. Efforts to bypass this process through judicial activism, unelected commissions, or unconstitutional ballot initiatives erode the voice of Utah voters and weaken the system of representative government that has served our state well for generations.
Utah’s constitutional system was deliberately designed to place redistricting authority in the hands of the Legislature to ensure accountability, transparency, and responsiveness to the will of the people. Handing this power over to unelected commissions or activist courts would silence Utah voters and concentrate power in the hands of those who do not answer to them.
The Utah Federation of College Republicans strongly supports Map C as the most effective and constitutionally sound redistricting plan to protect Utah’s voice in Washington. Map C is the only map that fully satisfies the court’s criteria by ensuring equal population across districts, limiting unnecessary splits of counties and municipalities, maintaining compact and contiguous boundaries, and preserving the character of Utah’s traditional neighborhoods. Supporting Map C is essential to preventing partisan manipulation, defending Utah’s values, and ensuring that Utahns determine our state’s future.
As College Republicans, we believe it is our duty to stand up for the rule of law and defend the integrity of Utah’s governing institutions. The Utah Constitution must not be rewritten by judicial overreach or political pressure. We call on all Utahns to support the constitutional framework that ensures our state government remains accountable to the people.
We urge the Utah Legislature to remain steadfast in exercising its redistricting authority as outlined in our state’s founding document. The Utah Federation of College Republicans will continue to oppose unconstitutional attempts to erode that power and will fight to protect the principles of representative democracy in our state.
Signed,
Tyler Boyles, Chairman of UFCR
Riley Beesley, Vice Chairman of UFCR
